We will explore the history of the Roman Republic from the foundation of the city up to the civil wars of the first century BC. We will see how Rome became the dominant power first of Italy, and then of the entire Mediterranean world, destroying or absorbing its rivals. Topics will include the Punic Wars against Carthage, the conquest of Greece, and the rise of the Dictators.
10 weeks, Tuesday 13 April – Tuesday 22 June (incl., with half-term break on 1 June)
