This course will come to you without prejudice or partisanship! It is not an exhortation to join or abjure the Roman Catholic church, but rather a history of the institution of the papacy and the faith that it has led and championed.
This is not just a succession of papal biographies! It is instead a comprehensive history of the greatest institution of the Christian West, during which we will sketch the overall history, slowing down regularly to wallow in key moments and explore particularly interesting characters and controversies. We shall travel all the way from the persecuted early church into our own times, via the turbulent middle ages and renaissance, the reformation, the papacy’s mighty response, and the age of enlightenment. Join us for a 2000-year journey!
