Let’s celebrate the 1900th anniversary of Hadrian’s Wall! In 122 AD, the Emperor Hadrian visited Britain. Before he left he gave instructions to build a wall separating the unconquered north from the increasingly Romanised south of the island. This short course will follow the building of that magnificent frontier of the Roman Empire. We will examine its forts and milecastles, find out about the men who were stationed there, and try to understand what the limits of the Roman world really meant for the people on both sides of the border.
